Refund Policy

At Homestay Korea, we understand that plans can change. This Refund Policy outlines the conditions and procedures for cancellations and refunds related to homestay bookings made through our platform.
1. Standard Refund Schedule
If a guest cancels a confirmed homestay booking, the refund amount for accommodation fees is determined by the number of days remaining before the scheduled check-in date:

Refunds are calculated based on the accommodation fees only. The check-in date is defined as the first day of the scheduled homestay stay.
2. Placement Fee
The placement fee is non-refundable once a booking has been confirmed, regardless of cancellation timing. The placement fee covers guest-host matching, background verification, pre-arrival coordination, and access to our support services.
The placement fee is a one-time service charge applied per booking. It is clearly displayed during the booking process before payment is made.
3. Host Cancellation Policy
In the event that a host cancels a confirmed booking:
- The guest will receive a full refund (100%) of all accommodation fees paid, regardless of the cancellation timing
- Homestay Korea will provide rebooking assistance at no additional charge, helping the guest find an alternative host family
- If a suitable replacement is found and the guest agrees, the original accommodation fees will be transferred to the new booking
- If no replacement is found or the guest prefers not to rebook, the full accommodation fee refund will be processed within 7 to 10 business days
Hosts who cancel confirmed bookings without valid reason may be subject to penalties including reduced search visibility, account warnings, or account suspension.
4. Exceptional Circumstances
Homestay Korea may provide full or partial refunds outside the standard schedule in the following situations:
- Natural disasters, pandemics, or government-mandated travel restrictions affecting the homestay
- Documented medical emergencies that prevent the guest from traveling
- Significant misrepresentation of the homestay listing by the host
- Safety concerns verified by Homestay Korea staff
Exceptional circumstance claims are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Supporting documentation may be required.
5. Early Departure
If a guest chooses to leave a homestay before the scheduled end date:
- No refund will be provided for the remaining unused days
- If the early departure is due to a verified issue with the host or accommodations, Homestay Korea will assess the situation and may provide a partial refund
6. How to Request a Cancellation
To cancel a booking and request a refund, please follow these steps:
- Step 1: Log in to your Homestay Korea account and navigate to your bookings
- Step 2: Select the booking you wish to cancel and click "Request Cancellation"
- Step 3: Provide a reason for cancellation and confirm your request
- Step 4: You will receive an email confirmation with the applicable refund amount
Alternatively, you may request a cancellation by contacting our support team directly. All cancellations must be requested before the scheduled check-in date.
7. Refund Processing
- Approved refunds are processed within 5 to 10 business days from the date the cancellation is confirmed
- Refunds are returned to the original payment method (PayPal)
- Bank processing times may add an additional 3 to 5 business days before the refund appears in your account
- Refunds for payments made in currencies other than KRW may be subject to exchange rate fluctuations
